Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup

The most famous makeup brand for foundations, Estee Lauder, has launched a new light matte foundation. The new range, Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup, promises to last 12 hours whilst providing a light matte coverage. Is Double Wear Sheer as good as the popular Double Wear Stay-in-Place? Let’s find out on my oily skin if it holds the 12 hours as promised.

Estee Lauder has a new foundation: Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup. The new addition to their foundation collection has given the opportunity to whoever finds Double Wear Stay-in-Place too heavy, a lighter version as if it would be skin alike. With the trend no-makeup makeup getting more fans, especially during pandemic times, Estee Lauder has come up with a new formula that is designed even for oily skin, creating a natural oil-free glow.

I have been looking for a long time, for a light coverage matte foundation that will keep under control my oily t-zone, since Giorgio Armani Maestro has been discontinued. Is Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup what I have been looking for? I decided to give it a try and discover if it would be “The Foundation” I have always dreamed of.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup has the following benefits:

DOUBLE WEAR SHEER MATTE MAKEUP SHADES

Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup has 28 shades, much less than the popular Double Wear Stay-in-Place that has more than 55 shades. Although the shades are limited to just 28 shades, in terms of undertones, Estee Lauder did a great job, since they always correspond to one of the three categories: cool, neutral and warm.

It seems for me they tried to cover all skin tones, but from the pictures above, I would just say that maybe the very light or the very dark skin tones were left out.

Luckily for me, since I am a warm tone, they have several warm shades and I got precisely my skin colour. I don’t need to mix, as sometimes it happens, and they didn’t exaggerate the undertone. What I mean is, when you’re a warm/yellow undertone, some makeup brands, transform the warm shade into a very yellow shade that makes the skin look sick. If I have to judge Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup by my shade, 4N1 Shell Beige, then I would have to say, they did an amazing job.

DOUBLE WEAR SHEER MATTE MAKEUP MY REVIEW

In terms of shades, as I said previously they did a good job and the picture above, proves it. Now, is it a light matte that actually keeps under control an oily t-zone? Unfortunately the answer is no. This foundation in a hot summer day, makes my skin look extreme oily, even if I apply a primer to minimize my pores and a powder after to mattify my skin. I love the glow it gives to my skin when it’s just applied, but to keep the healthy glow without becoming too shiny or oily, this foundation has to be applied on its own, without moisturisers and just a thin layer. If I do this way and then I apply powder, I would say Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup lasts 4 hours, but much less than the 12 hours Estee Lauder advertises. It’s true that I got this foundation now in summer and the high temperatures don’t help any matte foundation to stay matte, but if I compare with my favourite foundation Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear, truth is Lancome foundation always makes my skin look matte even in the hottest summer days.

I reckon Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup is better for dry to normal skin. The fluid texture it looks more hydrating for me and probably that’s the reason it fits better a dry/normal skin, but not oily skin.

So would I recommend this foundation after what I said? I would, if what you’re looking for is a one-step multitask mosturiser /spf /foundation that in one go uniforms skin tone. I would just highlight that if you have oily skin like me, make sure to carry a powder with you to mattify the skin throughout the day.

CONCLUSION

Unfortunately Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Matte Makeup is still not the light coverage matte foundation I’m looking for, despite the shade being perfect. I hope somehow, they will improve the formula in the future, considering that if it’s supposed to be matte, why then it doesn’t perform well on oily skin?
