Tenerife is the perfect destination for holidays. This paradise in the Canary Islands has everything to make your holidays unforgettable: stunning beaches and delicious food. I selected three beaches and guachinches that will show you the best of Tenerife. If the word guachinche sounds strange for you, then keep reading to find out what a guachinche is and why is a mandatory stop, if you come to the island.
If you are new to my blog, you will notice that my travelling section is filled with content about Tenerife. The reason is, I have been living in the island for the last ten months. Tenerife is a magical place where nature blossoms radiantly and zestful. The nature of Canary Islands goes beyond beaches. The agriculture for example, produces ingredients that lead up to quality food recipes.
A guachinche is where you want to go, to try the most traditional and typical food from the Canary Islands, made from the best raw ingredients grown organically. Guachinches are rustic restaurants, very affordable and with a cosy environment to them.
For me a perfect day in Tenerife is passed on the beach and eating at a guachinche, hence I came up with this article to advise the best beaches and guachinches. I have selected 3 beaches and 3 guachinches that represent the best of Tenerife.
BEACHES
1. EL PUERTITO

El Puertito beach in the south of Tenerife, in Adeje, can be seen as any other beach, however, the sun always shines in El Puertito, no matter what. Tenerife has 30 micro-climates and in some areas the weather can change considerably, but not in El Puertito. I don’t remember going there and see heavy clouds or rain. Therefore it always ends up being my first choice as a beach. I know the sun is always “blessing” El Puertito.
El Puertito is a small beach, which in summer can get easily crowded, but you can always explore the quiet left side of the beach, where you will have to sunbathe on the rocks. The sand area is small and if there isn’t space, there is always the option I mentioned.
2. PLAYA FAÑABE

Also in Adeje, Playa Fañabe is an extensive beach with plenty of space, clear water and bars that provide sunbeds. The sunset in Playa Fañabe is unique and powerful enough to make you forget any worries. If you want to enjoy this beach to the fullest, then rent a sunbed in the luxurious Le Club. It’s a beach club with the best and large sunbeds. They serve amazing cocktails and the music gives you the right holiday vibe. It’s a bit pricey, although completely worth it.
3. EL BOLLULLO

El Bollullo is situated in the north of Tenerife, close to Puerto de La Cruz. What is special about this beach is the pristine water and volcanic sand. It seems taken from a magazine. To get to this beach, you will have to walk around 30 minutes and I recommend parking the car before getting close to the beach, because the road is very narrow for a two-way direction. This beach is recognized as one of the best in Spain and because of that becomes very busy in summer season. At the moment El Bollullo is closed for maintenance work to avoid the rocks from falling. In July, it should reopen. I selected El Bollullo as the third beach, for the different scenario comparing to the other beaches and for its wild nature.
GUACHINCHES
1.CASA ARGELIO

The guachinche Casa Argelio is a familiar business that started in 1979, in the north of Tenerife. Here you can taste the best escaldon, made with gofio flour. Gofio flour is a special flour that only exists in the Canary Islands that comes from toasted grains. It has a dark colour and it has a bitter flavour. When cooked properly and served with the typical Canarian sauces (red and green sauce), is a complete nutritive meal, ideal for example, for breakfast. Other dishes that I would recommend would be: grilled cheese, fried rabbit, ribs with potatoes and parrillada of sausage or meat (different selection of sausages or meats). Most guachinches serve the same dishes, which represent the traditional Canarian cuisine.

In my opinion, Casa Argelio is the best guachinche that serves these traditional dishes. You can tell that they put a lot of effort, reflecting on the end result: delicious dishes that are to die for.
When you visit a guachinche, don’t underestimate them for the looks. What they lack in glamour, they compensate in flavour.
2.EL CUBANO
El Cubano, in the north of Tenerife, serves the best chicken and pork loins in the whole island and for a very low price. The view over the Teide, the third-highest volcano in the world, is stunning.
It can be tricky finding El Cubano, so don’t get desperate if it takes a while to understand how to get there.
The open space of this guachinche is “entertained” by the free roaming chickens and roosters that eventually might steal your food!

3.LAS GANGARRAS

Las Gangarras is a beautiful guachinche with exterior tables that enables you to enjoy the fresh air and sunlight. This guachinche is located as well in the north of the island and it’s easy to drive following google map directions. They have plenty of space for parking.
My recommendation, regarding the menu, goes for the barbecue meat.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Besides the three beaches I spoke about, there are many more. One of them that is worth going to, is the Playa de Las Teresitas in the north.

If you like surfing, then the best beaches would be Playa de Las Americas and El Medano.

About guachinches, the best ones are all in the north. If you are driving from the south of the island, normally will take more or less 40 minutes to arrive to the guachinches I’ve mentioned.
Wishing you an amazing bank holiday weekend.

What I enjoy most about Tenerife, is going to the cliffs of Los Gigantes, it relaxes me a lot to be there. Renting a boat and forgetting about everything is the best thing to do.
Yes you are right. Los gigantes is another great area to go and the beach there is beautiful! Thank you for reading ❤️
